✈ Controller connection instructions and precautions
1. The total power of the photovoltaic modules must be less than the rated power of the controller (rated voltage x rated current). It is strictly forbidden to overload the controller.
2. The positive and negative poles of the controller and battery should be checked clearly, and do not reversely connect the positive and negative poles.
3. Before connecting the solar panel, please connect the controller to the battery first. Connecting the solar panel without connecting the battery may cause the controller to burn out and fail to display.
4. After the controller is connected to the battery, connect the solar panels that have been connected in series or parallel to the controller through a patch cord.
5. Finally, connect the required DC load to the load end of the controller. If the load is not working, press the third button of the controller.
6. According to the controller manual, adjust the parameters you need. If it is a different type of battery, you need to adjust the battery charging type on the controller.
7. If your solar panel system has an inverter, please note that the inverter can only be connected to the battery, not directly to the controller.
✈ Common charging controller errors
Due to all the different components of the solar installation, it is easy to make mistakes during the installation process. The following are some common errors related to solar charge controllers.
Do not connect AC loads to the charge controller. Only DC loads should be connected to the output of the charge controller.
Certain low-voltage electrical appliances must be directly connected to the battery.
The charge controller should always be installed close to the battery, because accurate battery voltage measurement is an important part of the solar charge controller function.
✈Charge controller troubleshooting guide
* Check if you have reversed the positive and negative poles when connecting the solar panel and the controller.
If the wrong polarity is accidentally connected at the beginning, the controller will enter the protection state and the controller will not display.
If this is the case, it will return to normal the next day.
If this is not the case, please test the battery voltage.
The battery voltage is too low and the controller does not light up.
If this is the case, the controller will light up after charging.
If the above two conditions are eliminated, the controller may be faulty.
* The first step to be taken when diagnosing the charge controller is to confirm that all connections on the controller are firm and reliable. Connect the controller to the battery pack first, and then to the solar cell array. Be sure to tighten the controller terminal screws to ensure a safe and reliable connection.
After verifying the connection, check the display or LED indicators of the controller, and then compare these displays with the displays listed in the controller manual. You may be able to identify the problem through incorrect behavior or faulty indicators.
* If there is no fault indicator, we can start a basic troubleshooting test.
First, we will confirm the battery connection by checking the voltage readings of the battery pack terminals and the battery terminals of the charge controller, which should be similar. Use a multimeter to test the DC voltage above 20V, connect the (+) test lead to the (+) end of the battery pack, and then connect the (-) test lead to the (-) end of the battery pack, and check the reading on the display. Then follow the same steps to verify the voltage by placing the leads on the battery terminals of the controller. As long as the correct wire gauge is used from the controller to the battery, the voltage readings should differ from each other by a few millivolts. If not, there may be a problem with the controller, and we recommend talking to a technician.
Next, we will confirm the PV connection by checking the voltage reading of the PV terminal on the controller. When testing a DC voltage above 150V with a multimeter, connect the (+) test lead to the (+) PV end of the controller, and then connect the (-) test lead to the (-) PV end of the controller. The voltage reading should be the working voltage or VMP of the solar panel. Please refer to the (VMP) reading on the solar panel specification sheet in the system. The reading should be +/- 10% of the overall VMP reading. If it is not, there may be a problem with the solar panel connection. Also, confirm that the polarity of the photovoltaic array is connected correctly. If the multimeter displays a (-) voltage reading, the polarity is reversed, and these leads need to be switched.
